Red Door Sounds was superbly converted from an old Church into a studio in 1998 when it was called Studio One. The name change came in October 2010 when the studio was taken over by a new partnership: Chris Cheney, Emma Cheney, Paul ‘Woody’ Annison & Rae Harvey. Combined they have vast experience across many different aspects of the music industry including: producer, songwriter, touring & recording artist, live engineer, manager, label owner, promoter and more. See the PEOPLE page for more details.
Red Door Sounds features a mix of vintage pre amps (Neve/Vintech); compressors (UA LA2A, Tubetech); mics (Neumann, AKG, Rode) and backline (Fender, Gretsch, Pearl) all through the superb routing and clarity of the SSL. 3 excellent yet completely different sounding recording rooms: The Live Room (like it sounds); The Dead Room (a great room for a 70's drum sound); The Natural Room (beautiful acoustics with adjustable baffling) and a large Control Room in a relaxed yet pro-environment.
Our services include everything from full album production to voiceovers to everything in-between. You can bring your own engineer and we’ll leave you in peace or you can access our highly qualified in-house guys.
The studio also features a coffee area (with fridges, a microwave and real coffee), and the 60’s inspired Artist Lounge is a great place to escape with free Wi-Fi; a 54”plasma TV (with Skype capability) and a PlayStation 3 with games and more.
Surprisingly for such a centrally located studio, we do have parking (2 spaces) and it’s a flat load in. Of course you can skip the load in and access the in-house gear instead if you prefer (check the EQUIPMENT page for details)
The studio’s inner-city location is just off Smith St Collingwood and close to Brunswick St Fitzroy there’s a myriad of restaurants and accommodation options (see the FAQ page for more details).
